Lance Williams is an American Oil painter whose work captures the soul of the West with authenticity, uniqueness, and emotional depth. Raised in Northern Utah, Lance spent his youth exploring the mountains and backcountry, drawn more to nature and creativity than convention. From an early age, he was led by a high level of curiosity —an independent spirit that still shapes his work today. He graduated from Utah State University’s Huntsman School of Business, though his original intent was to study architecture. A deep love for design and the act of creating always lived just beneath the surface. After a 15-year career in finance, Lance made the bold decision in 2023 to pursue the creative calling that had been building for years.
Lance has always been drawn to subjects that captured his imagination and connected him to nature. Over time, he explored figurative painting and later discovered landscape painting as a powerful way to sharpen his skills and understand color theory better. His work now reflects a deep love for the land, the people, and the unique beauty of the landscapes —told through a distinctly western lens.
Though new to the professional art world, Lance brings a strong sense of purpose and urgency to his work—feeding an obsession that has driven him to make bold leaps forward in a short time. Over the past two years, he has immersed himself in daily studio practice, studied classical principles, and learned from artists he admires through workshops and mentorship.
His paintings are grounded in strong design, expressive edges, and a focus on mood and storytelling. Colorblind, Lance approaches painting with a rare sensitivity to value, light, and structure—continually seeking a deeper understanding of color through in-depth study rather than merely seeing it. His children can frequently be seen helping with colors on his palette or canvas. This unique colorblind perspective gives his work an authenticity and emotional resonance.
